Once the service begins, passengers will have the option to rent bikes, e-rickshaws, and auto-rickshaws through their phone.

Uber is set to launch its bike taxi service in Bihar’s Gaya district starting August 2024. To facilitate this, a registration fair is being held at the sports complex at Gaya College on August 27 and 28, where vehicle owners can register their bikes, autos, and e-rickshaws with Uber. Once the service begins, passengers will have the option to rent bikes, e-rickshaws, and auto-rickshaws. The service is expected to commence within two to three days after the registration.

Gaya, a significant hub for both national and international tourists due to attractions like Vishnupad Temple and the Mahabodhi Temple, is expected to benefit greatly from this service. The new ride-sharing option will provide a convenient transportation solution for visitors. Initially, the service will cover routes from Gaya city to Manpur and Bodh Gaya, with plans to expand to Sherghati and Tekari Raj in the future.

Gaya DTO Rajesh Kumar said the benefits of the aggregator service, stating that it offered peace of mind to both users and drivers. Users can trust the registered vehicles, while drivers can feel secure knowing their vehicles are being used by verified individuals. The service also provides the convenience of booking a ride anytime, anywhere through a mobile app.

In addition to offering convenience to passengers, the launch of Uber’s service in Gaya is expected to create employment opportunities. Drivers participating in the service are likely to earn a good income, with bike taxi drivers earning between Rs 8-9 per kilometre and e-rickshaw and auto drivers earning Rs 15 per kilometre. So far, over 25 vehicle owners in Gaya have registered with Uber, and the registration process is ongoing.
