Delhi-NCR’s metro network is no stranger to the chaos of the morning rush hour, but a recent photo posted on Reddit has reignited concerns about overcrowding. Captured at Hauz Khas metro station on the busy Yellow Line, the image shows an overwhelming number of commuters packed shoulder to shoulder, all heading toward Millennium City Centre in Gurugram.
Shared on a Friday morning (June 6), the photo quickly went viral, drawing attention to the sheer pressure on public transport infrastructure and the daily grind faced by thousands who rely on it. For many, it was a stark reminder of how navigating the metro has become a test of patience and endurance.
Accompanied by the caption, “Huge crowd going to Millennium City. What can be done to avoid such a crowd?” the post instantly resonated with commuters. It garnered over 1,600 upvotes and sparked a wave of responses.

The comments section quickly filled with shared frustrations, daily struggles, and a stream of suggestions—ranging from improving metro frequency to decentralising office hubs—to ease the crushing congestion.
A user on Reddit summed up the frustration bluntly: “There’s no fixing this. Trains already run every 3 to 10 minutes—this isn’t about scheduling, it’s about Delhi’s overwhelming population. And honestly, there’s no real solution in sight right now.”
Another commenter highlighted a deeper, structural issue with the network: “There’s no seamless metro link connecting Dwarka, Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, and Faridabad—even though they’re relatively close. Everyone is forced to change trains at Hauz Khas, which causes the bottleneck. The real fix? Build a new, fully underground line—call it the NCR line if you like—starting from Dwarka. It could connect key points: the Yellow Line at HUDA City Centre, the Violet Line in Faridabad, the Blue Line in Noida Sector 52/63, the Red Line near New Bus Adda, and end at the RapidX station in Ghaziabad. But with the way things work, this kind of life-changing project will probably never see the light of day.”
The human cost of overcrowding was evident in the personal stories that emerged.
A commuter recalled, “I nearly dislocated my shoulder while trying to get off the metro at a packed station.”
Another Reddit user pointed out the glaring gap between infrastructure and population: “Delhi simply doesn’t have enough metro lines or stations for the number of people using them. Just compare it to a city like Seoul, and the difference is staggering.”
Some users also drew comparisons between Delhi Metro and Mumbai’s local trains, suggesting the latter handles crowds more efficiently.
