Dead by Daylight has never really been anything but successful. More than any other game in its genre, it’s maintained a strong player base on the strength of its design fundamentals and, of course, the many crossovers with other horror media that have been added to it. From Silent Hill and Resident Evil to Alan Wake and Castlevania additions, DBD has kept the game fresh for existing players while attracting new audiences for years now. That strategy has continued to pay off with its Five Nights at Freddy’s DLC, which has brought a ton of new players to the game who will now have an influx of others to join matches with as DBD offers a free weekend, starting now.
With the launch of the DBD FNAF chapter, the horror game broke its previous records on Steam, reaching a new all-time player count. This wave of renewed attention is good news for anyone hoping to try Dead by Daylight for free this weekend, given there should be no shortage of activity on its servers.
Per an FAQ detailing the free weekend, players will be able to try out The Hillbilly, The Trapper, The Nurse, The Wraith, and The Huntress from a pool of killers and Dwight, Nea, William, David, Claudette, Jake, and Meg from its roster of survivors. “Any progress you have made leveling up your character(s) during the free trial or unlocking the Bloodweb will be saved,” it explains as well.
Dead by Daylight is free to play on Steam from now until Monday June 23. It’s also significantly discounted until Thursday June 26, a 60% reduction bringing its price down to $7.99 USD / £5.99. Download it or buy a copy on Steam right here.
