Though the new Maruti Swift maintains the same design vibe as its predecessor, it flaunts some noticeable tweaks.
Maruti Suzuki has launched the fourth-generation Swift in India with a price tag ranging from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
This is a bump of Rs 25,000 to Rs 37,000 from the previous model. The new Swift comes with a sleek design, added features, enhanced safety measures, and a more fuel-efficient 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine.
Interested buyers can pre-book the Swift at any Maruti Suzuki dealership nationwide, at a token amount of Rs 11,000. The company has already bagged 10,000 orders, with an additional 30,000 units slated for export.
Compared to competitors like the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which start at Rs 5.65 lakh and Rs 5.92 lakh respectively, the new Swift is on the pricier side. Even the top-tier petrol-automatic versions of Tata and Hyundai’s small hatchbacks are priced lower than the highest Swift variant.
Though the new Swift maintains the design language of the outgoing model, it features noticeable changes such as a redesigned front bumper, a revamped radiator grille, reshaped headlights and fog lights, conventional rear door handles, new alloy wheel designs, and updated tail-lamps with a C-shaped pattern. Despite having the same wheelbase as the previous model, the new Swift is slightly longer, narrower, and taller.
The vehicle is offered in nine exterior color options, including dual-tone paints, and introduces two new blue and red colors. Maruti also presents Racing Roadstar and Thrill Chaser accessory packages for the Swift, adding sporty cosmetic changes to the exterior and interior.
The cabin of the new Swift resembles that of the Baleno and Fronx, offering a premium look. It features a larger 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, new fabric upholstery, restyled air-con vents, updated HVAC switchgear, and a modified analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch digital MID.
Even the base model Swift LXI comes with decent features, including standard safety equipment like six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, and ESC. Hill start assist is available only with automatic variants.
With the new Z12E engine replacing the older K12 unit, the Swift achieves better fuel efficiency, averaging around 24.8kpl to 25.75kpl. This makes it one of India’s most fuel-efficient hatchbacks, surpassing models like the Wagon R, Alto K10, and S-Presso. However, Maruti’s Celerio, along with the Grand Vitara and Toyota’s Hyryder, still hold the lead in fuel efficiency due to their hybrid technology or smaller engines.
The new 1.2-litre Z Series engine offers both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options, producing 82hp and 112Nm of peak torque, which is slightly lower than the previous model. Maruti claims that the new Swift emits up to 12 percent less CO2 emissions.
