Another important stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), linking Haji Ali Juice Centre to Marine Drive, has officially opened to traffic.
Having said that, the final section, connecting the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) to Lotus Jetty-Worli Naka, is set to be operational by mid-March, as per Free Press Journal.
The 10.58-km coastal road runs from the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli end of the BWSL. The project includes multi-level interchanges at key points, such as Haji Ali, Peddar Road (Amarsons Garden), and Worli Sea Face.
The Peddar Road interchange has four entry-exit points, while Haji Ali has eight and Worli has five. Before the latest opening, southbound vehicles could access the coastal road via the Worli interchange, the Amarsons interchange, or directly from the BWSL.
“The last section at the Worli interchange, providing direct access from Worli to the BWSL for northbound traffic, is in its final stage. We expect it to open by the third week of March,” said a senior civic official.
The official added that delays were due to the construction of parking spaces for the traffic arms. The Haji Ali interchange arms were previously opened in December 2024.
Meanwhile, the northbound lane of the bow-string bridge, which connects the Coastal Road to the BWSL, was opened on 27th January 2025. This new route has significantly cut travel time between Bandra and Marine Drive to just 10-12 minutes, providing a faster and more efficient option for thousands of daily commuters.
The Coastal Road project, which began in October 2018 with a budget of ₹13,983 crore, has already reduced travel time by 70 percent and fuel consumption by 34 percent, according to the BMC.
