Banish stubborn limescale on taps in ’30 minutes’ using 16p fridge item

A cleaning expert has shared an affordable and natural method for removing limescale deposits from taps.

Cleaning around the home often involves purchasing multiple chemical cleaning products which can quickly add up.

Rather than resorting to harsh chemicals, an expert has shared how to clean your home using common items that can be found in your kitchen cupboards and fridge.

Nancy Emery, a cleaning expert at Tap Warehouse, has shared how to remove stubborn limescale deposits from taps using a natural method.

Lemons have many benefits when it comes to cleaning and can be used to clean shower glass, kettles and microwaves.

They’re also perfect for cleaning taps as they contain citric acid which can break down limescale.

Nancy said: “To get rid of limescale on your taps, you’ll need to make up a 75/25 solution of lemon juice and water.

“All you need to do is use a soft sponge and gently scrub the solution, leaving it on the tap to dissolve the limescale deposits for 30 minutes. Once the time is up, rinse thoroughly with water.

“For special finishes such as brushed brass, matte black or chrome, it’s especially important to avoid using harsh chemicals such as vinegar when cleaning.

“Lemons are quite acidic, so make sure you don’t let the lemon juice solution sit for longer than two minutes.”

Once the taps have been rinsed with water, they should be dried with a microfibre cloth. This won’t only add shine but will help prevent limescale.

The lemon solution can also be used to clean the aerator in your tap which can be prone to limescale buildup.

To remove the limescale, use a toothbrush and the lemon juice solution to scrub it away.

Lemons are cheap and can be bought from most local supermarkets for as little as 16p per lemon.
