The most suggested method was to use baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda.

Esther King said: “I just did my cups on Sunday. Bicarbonate of soda mixed into a paste with water. I used a non-stick sponge and scuffed lightly. Like magic.”

Elaine Traynor replied: “Mix a bit of bicarbonate of soda with water to make a paste and rub for a few minutes, then rinse.”

Jacqui Ross wrote: “Bicarbonate of soda, pop a little in with a few drops of water. Wipe the paste around the cup and rinse.”

Lorraine Ann Holtom commented: “Bicarbonate of soda and boiling water. If very stubborn stains, bicarbonate of soda paste, and rub it with a cloth. DON’T USE BLEACH.”

Baking soda can be bought from most supermarkets or online. Shoppers can buy the household item for as little as 65p from Tesco and 59p from Morrisons.

Baking soda is naturally abrasive and can easily absorb odours. The item can also be used to unblock drains, freshen up carpets and clean tile grout.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using denture tablets, bleach and a dishwasher tablet.

Lesley Davies said: “Steradent tablets for false teeth. Put one tablet in each cup and leave for a while, maybe an hour or two.

“They will fizz with a colour, I’ve had blue and pink at different times. Then wash thoroughly with hot water and lo and behold they are sparkling clean. Game changer.”

Helen Whitcroft commented: “Drop of bleach, swish around. I always run mine through the dishwasher to make sure I’ve got it off.”

Melanie Extence replied: “Dishwasher tablet. Leave to soak. Or just use a dash of bleach in cold water.”
