The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has launched four new Metro Feeder routes to support the city’s newly opened Yellow Line Metro.
Having said that, these routes will operate 96 daily trips using 12 buses, connecting six major metro stations across Electronics City and nearby areas.
The stations include Hosur Road, Beretena Agrahara, Electronics City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Hebbagodi, and Bommasandra, as per Hindustan Times.
Why This Move Matters
BMTC already plays a vital role in Bengaluru’s daily commute, carrying around 44 lakh passengers through over 65,000 trips every day.
By expanding its Metro Feeder network, the corporation is closing the gap between metro stations and final destinations, making public transport more attractive and efficient.
The new routes come after the successful launch of feeder services at KR Puram Railway Station and BTM Layout Bus Stand in 2023. Since then, BMTC has run 2,750 feeder trips across 45 routes, serving over 1.2 lakh passengers daily.
Why is BMTC focusing on Electronics City?
Electronics City is one of Bengaluru’s busiest tech and industrial hubs. The surrounding Hosur Road area already benefits from 3,000 BMTC trips daily across 100 routes, serving thousands of passengers.
From the Wipro Gate area alone, buses run on 14 routes with 80 schedules, completing 700 trips every day to various city points.
Additionally, 18 BMTC routes via NICE Road connect Electronics City and Wipro Gate to major city hubs, serving around 14,000 passengers daily.
The New Routes in Detail
- Route MF-22 – Electronics City Wipro Gate to Kodathi Wipro via Konappana Agrahara, Hosur Road, and Kasavanahalli. (4 buses, 32 trips/day)
- Route MF-22A – Electronics City Wipro Gate to Kodathi Wipro via Huskur Gate and Chandapura Cross. (4 buses, 24 trips/day)
- Route MF-22B (Chakra) – Loop covering Bommasandra, Thirupalya Cross, and Hebbagodi. (2 buses, 20 trips/day)
- Route MF-22C (Chakra) – Loop covering Konappana Agrahara, Hebbagodi, and Bommasandra. (2 buses, 20 trips/day)
Besides this, BMTC has also introduced QR code systems at metro stations and inside trains. Passengers can scan these to track buses live, check feeder schedules, and plan their journeys more efficiently.
