What do the frighteningly classic FPS FEAR, the rush of hitting criminals in the Batman Arkham games, and the Left 4 Dead-style action of Back 4 Blood have in common? Well, they are all games published by Warner Bros. Games, but they’re also part of the new WB Play the Legends Bundle from Humble, and you can score 16 excellent games for just $12 / £10.93 right now – which is ridiculously cheap, and well worth the price.
The Dark Knight’s story in the Batman Arkham series, which makes up some of the best superhero games, is worth the price of admission alone, but Humble Bundle’s latest collection is full of games I’ve enjoyed and regularly play since each release. Even Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was disappointing to fans of the Arkham games, is well worth ¢75. Yeah, that’s all it costs right now.
If gliding around Gotham’s various landmarks isn’t to your liking, you can always dive into my favorite duology, with Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. A pair of fantastic action-adventure games, this Lord of the Rings spin-off sees you play as Talion, a Captain of the Watch who is brutally murdered and combines with the Wraith Celebrimbor to take on Sauron’s forces. The Nemesis System, which sees each enemy capable of becoming a boss fight in their own regard, makes playing the game constantly refreshing. Despite beating War almost 10 years ago, I still dive into it every few months.
Next, you can take a trip down memory lane – if your version of memory lane happens to be a twisted horror game that is more like Elm Street than a gallery of precious moments. FEAR may be almost 20 years old at this point, but the FPS game is iconic, blending realistic (for the time) enemies with a psychological wrapper. It inspired one of the most underrated indie games, with Trepang2 using many of the familiar themes, but that’s for me to rant about another day.
