Battlefield 6 classes explained

What are the Battlefield 6 classes? One of the most fundamental parts of the Battlefield experience is its class system. Having various ways to play the FPS means that you don’t have to rely on being a crack shot if you want to help your team; you could fulfill the role of a pacifist medic, not firing a shot for the entire round, and still make a huge difference.

With the Battlefield 6 release date approaching and one of several BF6 betas on our doorstep, it’s time for players to gear up and prepare for what’s to come. One of the most important things you can decide on is which class you’ll play as in the FPS game – do you want to be all guns blazing, first through the door? Or is a ranged recon role more suited to your playstyle? Here is every class in Battlefield 6, their traits, and gadgets.

All Battlefield 6 classes

Each of the four classes in Battlefield 6 has a signature gadget, weapon, and trait, angling them towards a specific role in a fight. While any class can use any BF6 weapon (in the unlocked weapons game mode, at least), their signature weapon set makes them more effective when using certain types of firearms.

BF6 classes: a soldier running with an assault rifle.

Assault

The Assault class is the pointy end of the stick when it comes to combat; first through the door, all guns blazing. The Adrenaline Injector makes Assault a force to be reckoned with if used at the right time, and the reduced fall damage makes engaging – or disengaging – a much quicker affair than with any other class.

  • Signature Weapon: Assault Rifle – Faster draw and switch times, plus better sprint recovery.
  • Signature Trait: Reduced fall damage and no movement speed penalty after falling.
  • Signature Gadget: Adrenaline Injector – A powerful self-administered stimulant to enhance fighting capability. Temporarily boosts sprint speed and reduces explosive damage. Provides resistance to debuffs, and makes enemy footsteps easier to hear.

Assault gadgets

The Assault class can exchange one of its gadget slots in favor of taking an extra primary weapon.

  • Grenade Launcher: Explosive – A portable grenade launcher that fires explosive rounds at a range beyond what you can throw.
  • Grenade Launcher: Thermobaric – a portable grenade launcher that fires thermobaric grenades that burn upon impact.

Assault field spec

  • Level 0 – Negates movement speed penalty when aiming down sights and moving.
  • Level 1 – Gain an additional charge to Adrenaline Injector.
  • Level 2 – Improved passive regeneration stats. (+50% rate, -50% delay)
  • Class Active Ability: Combat Stimulant – Highlight enemy sounds and reveal nearby enemies. Five-second duration, extended with kills.

BF6 classes: a soldier holding a rocket launcher.

Engineer

The Engineer class is essential for maximizing the efficiency of your vehicles. They can repair friendly vehicles and are the mortal enemy of opposing armor – a gadget slot dedicated to launchers means you can turn enemy vehicles into scrap.

  • Signature Weapon: SMG – Improved hip-fire control.
  • Signature Trait: Flak Jacket – Decreases damage taken from explosives (-33% splash damage only).
  • Signature Gadget: Repair Tool – A blow torch to repair friendly vehicles and equipment. Can also damage enemy assets. Extended use will temporarily overheat the tool.

Engineer gadgets

  • Unguided RPG – An unguided rocket-propelled grenade, perfect against slow-moving targets, or for destroying structures.
  • Surface-to-Air – A guided missile that can lock on to airborne vehicles. Once a lock has been gained, the rocket will follow the target until it impacts or is destroyed.
  • Motion Sensor Mine – A placeable gadget that detects nearby enemy vehicles, launching an explosive payload when the target is in range.

Support

Another key component to any efficient squad, the Support class will keep your soldiers healthy and in the fight for longer. The Supply Bag can supply and heal your team passively, leaving you to pick up any soldiers who may have taken a stray bullet.

  • Signature Weapon: MG – No sprint speed penalty.
  • Signature Trait: Quick Revive – Faster drag and stationary revives (+20% speed, -0.5s duration).
  • Signature Gadget: Supply Bag – A deployable bag that resupplies all nearby infantry with ammo for gadgets and weapons and regenerates health more efficiently, even when under fire.

Support gadgets

  • Defibrillator – A device that allows you to revive both squad members and teammates alike. Revives with full health.
  • Deployable Cover – Placeable cover that protects against ballistic and explosive damage. Can be repaired by an Engineer.

Recon

The Recon class, if used correctly, can supply your team with vital information on the enemy, as well as being an expert marksman. Sniper rifles are the Recon’s bread and butter – being able to hold your breath with this class is key for hitting those long-range shots.

  • Signature Weapon: Sniper – Stabilize aim by holding breath and rechamber quicker between shots.
  • Signature Trait: Auto-Spot – Looking at hostiles while in ADS marks them as spotted.
  • Signature Gadget: Motion Sensor – This device detects and displays the position of nearby moving enemies, vehicles, and gadgets on team members’ minimaps. Enemy infantry can remain undetected while moving in crouch or prone. This device emits a sound audible to hostiles.

Recon gadgets

  • Demolition Charge – High explosive charge that can be remotely detonated.
  • Deploy Beacon – A placeable item sets up a deploy point for squad members and the owner. Disappears once the own uses the deploy point and must be placed again.

Recon field spec

  • Level 0 – Improved auto-spotting.
  • Level 1 – Sniper rifle shots to the torso slows healing.
  • Level 2 – Headshots from sniper rifles are unrevivable.
  • Class Active Ability: UAV Call-In – Call in a UAV to shadow you and aid in spotting enemy combatants.

BF6 field spec training

Each of the BF6 classes also has two options to further refine their effectiveness within their role. The Recon, for instance, can choose a Sniper or Pathfinder training, with the former focusing on spotting and damage, with the latter giving the tools to get behind enemy lines without being detected.

Earning XP in-game and playing the objective will increase the level of the chosen training, giving increased benefits as you go. The official Battlefield 6 website explains it thus:

  • Level 0: Passive benefit available upon immediate selection of the Training Path.
  • Levels 1 and 2: Enhanced benefit aimed at improving your selected role. Only earnable through teamplay progression and score XP.
  • Level 3: Is a one-time use ability that you manually activate and either benefits yourself, your team, or your situation in the match.

For example, at level 3, the Recon gains access to a UAV. The UAV reveals enemies in a specific area. Once the UAV has been used, your training level is set back to 2, and you must work your way back to level 3.

Now that you know what the Battlefield 6 classes do, the only thing you have to decide is which direction you’ll take when BF6 comes out.
