Doom’s simple premise is what makes it so alluring. You rip and tear hordes of demons from Hell, stomping them to pieces and blowing them into chunks of red mist with all manner of weapons. It’s been this way since the early ’90s, and Doom: The Dark Ages wants to keep this tradition alive – but with some new ideas. Ahead of launch, you can grab the game at a decent discount if you want to send your future self a nice gift.
Ever since we learned that the Doom: The Dark Ages release date is right around the corner, I’ve become much more excited for the next step in this iconic FPS game series. Doomguy is going to worlds with a distinct fantasy tinge to them, using a shield he can throw like Captain America and plenty of gory melee weapons. Doom: The Dark Ages is a delightful change of pace, and I can’t wait to try it for myself.
My colleague Ed has already waxed lyrical about id Software’s new take on our grunting hero in his recent Doom: The Dark Ages preview, and it’s a perfect read if you want to explore how id appears to be reshaping the series’ identity going forward. Once you’re done with Ed’s excellent write-up, you can already grab The Dark Ages at a sizable discount.
If you decide to grab a Steam key for Doom: The Dark Ages via Fanatical, you get the game at 16% off. That goes for the standard and premium editions, so you can grab some extra goodies ahead of time if you want. The Premium Edition comes with the base game, two days of early access, future campaign DLC, a digital artbook, a soundtrack, and the Divinity Skin pack as well.
With Doomguy’s next demon-slaying adventure right around the corner, make sure you keep up to date with the Doom: The Dark Ages system requirements. You’ll need to pretty modern GPU to get it running well, so it’s worth a look ahead of time.
